Applegreen

Applegreen

I really enjoyed my meal here and already am looking forward to my next visit. I should have visited this place earlier so I would have another casual dining favorite in the Causeway Bay area. There were hits and misses but my overall experience was a very pleasant one. Atmosphere was causal, bright with very spacious seating arrangements. Service was excellent particularly to diners who takes pictures of the food. How so? I will explain later.

The Spicy Ahi Tempura Roll was a wonderful way the start the meal, pink in the inside with hints of spiciness. Golden crust and soft interior. Thumbs up!

Rather ordinary Steakhouse Salad with sliced steak cooked to your liking. Slightly overcooked but no complaints. The banana bread that came with it was slightly soggy but flavors were good. Did I mention I love banana bread?

Thumbs up on this Hakata Cod Roe spaghetti. Not only was it al dente, the spaghetti was coated with code roe so one can taste the rich flavors on every slurp! (you can add a fried egg and bacon for just an extra HKD12!) I really liked this dish.

The Grilled Salmon with mashed Sweet Potato was nice, but it was slightly overcooked. However, the highlight on this dish was the mashed Sweet Potato which was TWO THUMBS up! Not that silky smooth but it was yum, flavors were just right, not overly sweet. They added chunks of sweet potatoes to it to make the texture even more fulfilling.

When the American Theme Park Favorite was served, the staff said the following: "Take your time with the pictures, once finished, let us know and we will cut up the apple for me." WOW ... WOW! I was impressed, very impressed indeed! The two items were common theme parks sweets and hence the name of the dessert. However, the chocolate coated banana was just alright and as for the caramel apple ....

The presentation (after the cutting procedures) was nice but the caramel coating was a little bit too thick in my opinion and very sticky that we had trouble talking because we got the caramel stuck in between our teeth! Hot water would be recommended afterward to melt them in your mouth.

Another way would be to use toothpicks! :)

I like the food quality here too but the salads are too tiny portioned vs price... hmmmm. Actually their pastas seem more affordable in comparison! That piece of bread? Didn't know its banana bread at all just noticed the poppyseeds and its sweetness! Better with dessert and a scoop of gelato ! : P

@Rita: actually I think I saw somewhere else with such an apple gelato! let me find it sin :)

@Javier: yeah! it is worth a try for sure :)

@Hong Kong and Macau Fine Food: I think their salads are treated as main, not for starters. The two pretty gals sitting next to our table had salads for their mains. LOL

@Greentea00: yes, price vs portions I think they did a good job indeed! Definitely will be one of my more frequent resto in the area.

Haha may be its just me and I need to eat lots of salad leaves to be filled up so I think it could be bigger for nearly $90-100 after 10%! Kind of like a koala or panda munching on greens non-stop :P
